Lonely at anchor in a fantastic bay and simply enjoying the beautiful life, which sailor does not dream about it? The beautiful balearic island Mallorca offers numerous beautiful bays and anchorages. Especially between Cap Formentor and Capdepera there is a fabulous coastal region. Mostly there are big sandy beaches, which are especially exposed to the wind from NE, but there are also very beautiful sheltered bays. In the following we show you the anchorages and bays in the north of Mallorca that we like the most:
Cap de Formentor - The Caribbean beach in the north of Mallorca
Cala Formentor (also: Cala Pi de la Posada) is an anchorage bay in the very north of Mallorca. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful bays of Mallorca, if not of the whole Mediterranean area. No wonder, because it offers crystal clear, turquoise water, white sand and an impressive view of the Tramuntana mountains. The 840 m long and 3 to 10 m wide fine sandy beach and the fantastic surroundings are still very original. We especially like the sunshades made of straw, because they give the beach a tropical flair.
In 1931, the internationally known 5-star Hotel Gran de Formentor was built there, which already had many famous personalities as Winston Churchill, John Wayne, Audrey Hepburn or the Dalai Lama to visit.
The anchorage is at a water depth between five and three meters, 200-300 meters in front of the beach. Anchorage is good holding fine sand with some sea grass. It is also possible to moor at mooring buoys, but this costs a little.
The service at the beach: There are showers and toilets, swimming supervision and rental of sunshades and sun loungers. There is a wide range of water sports on offer: You can rent stand-up paddles, pedal boats and canoes and even take windsurfing lessons. There are 2 restaurants, a reservation is recommended. For shopping you need a taxi to go to the nearby town of Pollença, there is an ATM and post office service at the Hotel Gran de Formentor.
